MySupplies Nancy Balkcom Mentors Protégé Towanda Scott of Staffware
ATLANTA - The Greater Women's Business Council held its second annual graduation celebration for the Mentor protégé program at GE Energy.
The Mentor protégé Program under the guidance of Mary Parker and Dr. Shawn Byler is one of the stellar offerings of GWBC©. The program was developed in 2008 to help certified women business enterprises move to the next level of success.
The unique feature of this program is that WBEs empower fellow WBEs in the development of their business through one on one contact, bi-monthly protégé meetings, and constant evaluation.
"The GWBC mentor/ protégé program was a great experience, being paired with the right mentor was the key," explains Scott ( protégé). "As a mentor, Nancy was a wonderful compliment and resource for me; helping me to maximize what I knew, directing me in areas of uncertainty and providing support with challenges that I faced."
This year's class consisted of six protégés and company mentors: MySupplies (mentor) & StaffWear, LLC. ( protégé); Transport Global Logistics (mentor) & Heineck & Company ( protégé); Cadence Group (mentor) & Pareto Staffing ( protégé); Atlanta Computer Sales (mentor) & R2T, Inc.( protégé); The Robart Companies (mentor) & SeeGee Technologies, Inc. ( protégé); and Cadence Group (mentor) & VSN, Inc. ( protégé). During their 12 month commitment, each mentor guided the protégé through a customized process designed to enable each participant to develop an internal resource for future business partnerships and reposition their companies to optimize opportunities for growth.
"It was an honor for me to work with Towanda passing along the benefits of my experience," says Balkcom, "and gaining knowledge from her as well during our exchange of ideas."
Mentor protégé Program chair, Mary Parker commented, "What a remarkable difference I see in the Mentees from the interview to completion of the program! Increased sales and profits, new relationships, renewed confidence, processes implemented, greater understanding of financial statements and their affects on the bottom line and getting focused on growing their business are just a few comments spoken by program participants. We are excited about our 2010 program and look forward to another outstanding year. This program is a definite asset to GWBC with measurable results for WBE participants."
